The three family-owned vineyards run by Nicholas Brown and Pen Naish operate on a holistic level, ensuring every item, process and component that goes into their organic and biodynamic wine works together. “All elements that make up our vineyards are considered – how they interact and make one healthy, vital whole,” explains Pen.
As a result, their range of wines – from Pinot Noir to Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay to Cabernet Franc – are organic, with no use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides, which is better for the consumer. And their biodynamic growing processes ensure the land is well looked after too. “The land is the foundation for our vines, fruit and wine,” explains Pen. “We want to give back to the land so it can provide for generations and life after our time here. After all, our land was here for eons before us and will be here after we are gone. We are only guardians of our sites.”
In addition to the vineyards and winery, Nicholas and Pen have established a tasting room and award-winning restaurant on site where locally sourced ingredients are turned into ever-changing seasonal lunches from Thursday to Monday. The laidback, minimalist aesthetic offers simple seating and noteworthy views.
Whether a special occasion, a stop-off on your wine-tasting journey or a day out to experience one of the region’s best eateries, you can count on Black Estate for impeccably warm service, unforgettable wine and food, and a true passion for everything they do.
