North Canterbury Seafood Market has been the region’s go-to for the freshest seafood, sourced straight from North Canterbury waters. Christine and Craig, the proud owners since June 2022, have continued to build on the strong foundation laid by the previous owners, maintaining a loyal local following.
Christine, with a background in hospitality and experience running a food truck, and Craig, a licensed builder, embraced the flexibility of running their own seafood market. The couple’s passion for seafood and the community shines through in everything they do. From their store on High Street in Rangiora to the markets they attend each week, they’re committed to bringing the highest quality seafood to their customers.
Locally Sourced, Fresh Every Day
North Canterbury Seafood Market prides itself on sourcing fresh fish directly from the boats each weekday morning. The majority of their fish is caught locally, ensuring the freshest supply for their customers. Their full-time fillet specialist ensures the fish is expertly prepared, whether it’s whole or filleted, ready for sale.
Sustainability is at the heart of their business, with every fish they sell being traceable to the boat that caught it, all under the Quota Management System. They also offer farmed Akaroa salmon, hot smoked to order using Manuka wood, which has become a firm favourite among customers.
Delicious Homemade Options
North Canterbury Seafood Market offers an array of delicious meal options prepared on-site. Their seafood chowder, packed with flavour, has become a hit. Other popular items include smoked salmon, salmon filo parcels, and fish cakes, all made in-house.
A Fixture in the Community
Christine and Craig love being part of the North Canterbury community. Christine manages the shop and Craig runs both the Ohoka and Amberley Farmers Markets every week. They love engaging with the community, and often handing out chocolate fish to kids who visit the store!
The market also collaborates with local businesses, supplying fish to Rangiora Bakery for their popular fish and chip specials and partnering with Fitfood for additional product offerings.
North Canterbury Seafood Market is located at 2 High Street in Rangiora. You can also find them at the Ohoka Farmers Market on Fridays and Amberley Farmers Market on Saturdays. You can also place orders online!
Why North Canterbury? Having lived locally for over 25 years, it’s the perfect fit for us. We purchased the business with a fantastic reputation and a strong, loyal customer base. It’s great that we can provide fish that’s been caught right here in North Canterbury waters.
