For the past 13 years (and counting) Barb Warren has been on a mission: to provide fresh, local, seasonal, ethical and nutritious food choices to the people of North Canterbury while supporting small local growers and food artisans.
So every Friday, rain, snow or shine, Barb and her hard working team set up the Ohoka Farmers Market in the picturesque Ohoka Domain.
From the start, the market has been a success and now attracts up to 55 stallholders and around 500 visitors each week. Punters can expect everything from organic seasonal produce, fresh fish, meat and poultry, fruit and nuts from our local small orchard growers, herbs, eggs, honey and preserves all the way through to beautiful handmade items like soap, jewellery, homewares and clothing. With hot coffee, freshly baked goods and other delicious takeaway options there is never a shortage of breakfast, lunch or morning tea choices for visitors who enjoy the seated areas and live music to dine with.
