The Amberley brewery was awarded a total of five medals at the October event: three silver medals, for their Feijoa Gose, Hazy Pale Ale and New England IPA; and two bronze medals, for their APA and Stout.

“This was probably our best result yet at a New Zealand beer awards,” says Brew Moon Marketing Manager Oscar McCauley.

“We are delighted for our brewer, Becs Cope, who has spent the last couple of years learning from Belinda [Gould, Brew Moon founder] and is now officially our Head Brewer. It’s a testament to the hard work that Becs has put in, and she fully deserves this.”

Despite this year’s success as well as numerous past wins at the NZ Brewers Guild Awards and the Australian International Beer Awards, Oscar says the business is still aiming to improve.

“To pick up medals across four different categories gives us a lot of confidence moving forward. These awards have shown us that, whilst there is improvement yet to come, we are getting it right with most beer styles we brew.

“Our Dark Side of the Moon Stout, for example, was first brewed 18 years ago and has now won gold, silver and bronze at various Beer Awards.

“Similarly, this is our third successive silver medal for our Feijoa Gose, so we’re hoping to step it up to a gold in 2022!”

Brew Moon Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery and taproom in Amberley that has been a North Canterbury icon since it was established in 2002 by Kieran McCauley and Belinda Gould.

The Brewers Guild of New Zealand Beer Awards is an annual competition that celebrates excellence in the brewing industry. In non-COVID years, judges hail from New Zealand, Australia and the USA, giving the Awards a reputation across the globe as one of the most prestigious accolades a brewer can win.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s judges were New Zealand based, and the event was split into regional awards ceremonies. Brew Moon received their medals at the Christchurch regional event on October 21st
