Rangiora is the largest town in North Canterbury and is fast becoming a foodie destination for locals and visitors alike. Why? Rangiora township has grown exponentially since the early 2000s which has seen a huge uprise in new cafes and restaurants. Complemented by the town’s heritage buildings, boutique shops and stunning parks, Rangiora’s foodie scene should not be missed.

Fools of Desire

When you step foot into Fools of Desire, you know you’ve arrived somewhere special. You are always greeted with warmth and generous hospitality. The menu reflects the seasons and champions local producers giving you an authentic North Canterbury food experience. The café is licenced and showcases local beverages, so you can even add a local wine or beer to your lunch order.

Coffee Worx

Coffee Worx is one of the caffeine meccas of North Canterbury. Owners, Deb and Ian Riach have been in the coffee business for over 20 years, which is evident in every cup. You may go for the coffee, but you most certainly will stay for the atmosphere and food. The bagels (there’s a wall of bagels) and the giant toasties are a crowd favourite.

Percival Street Bakery

Want to know who bakes the best sourdough bread in Rangiora? Percival Street Bakery’s award-winning bakers do. Soft crumb, crunchy crusts, PSB sourdough bread is the loaf of bread you wish you could have mastered through lockdown. Percival Street Bakery serves up all your favourite baked goodies, including lamingtons, pies, southern sushi (if you know you know). They also do delicious fresh salads for the more healthy-minded folk.

Alt Kitchen

Local craft beers paired with the best burgers in Rangiora? Yes, please! Started in a food truck, Alt Kitchen has found its new home at local craft beer bar & fillery, The Good Drop. If you like beers and burgers, then this place should be first on your list. We hear the pork belly burger, and the loaded fries are a crowd favourite. Alt Kitchen keep it fresh with weekly burger specials, so you’ll never get bored.

Nom Nom Kitchen

The go-to “date night” for locals is Nom Nom Kitchen. Serving up local wines and incredible Asian fusion food, Nom Nom Kitchen has an energetic atmosphere and food that will leave you wanting to lick your plate. It’s also a convenient stone’s throw from the local historic cinema.

Pocket Full of Spices

If you’re looking for an authentic Indian experience, then look no further than Pocket Full of Spices. Chunky meats, generous portions and naan bread that will blow your mind, you’ve got to give this place a go.

Lemongrass Restaurant

Although not technically “in” Rangiora, we couldn’t leave Lemon Grass, Thai Restaurant off our list. A quick 10-minute drive from Rangiora township, Lemon Grass is another authentic foodie experience, that will relieve your travel bug FOMO. Tucked away in an orchard, Lemon Grass, is family-run business that dishes up an impressive range of Thai dishes. Known for their generous hospitality and portion sizes, Lemon Grass is a hidden gem that you’ll thank us for sharing later.
