Geoff and Barb Taylor are on a mission: for the past 13 years they have been working to make the tiny township of Waipara a destination in and of itself.
The 2020 lockdown provided some downtime from their successful boutique homestay – Barb’s Place – which was the perfect window to develop something new. “We had this great location but nothing in the area selling food or coffee,” explains Barb. So with a food cart, Barb’s love of cooking and baking, and the ideal location on SH1, Vineyard Valley Food Cart was born. “I love anything to do with food and enjoy offering my cooking to my customers. So making tasty products and receiving lots of positive affirmations makes my day!”
Barb, a professional chef for 40 years, gets up at the crack of dawn every weekday to make her famous pies, sausage rolls, sandwiches, toasties and slices, with service starting at 5am. There’s homemade soup in winter and real fruit ice-creams in summer, with fish and chips each Friday night. The cart is nestled on the corner of SH1 and Mt Cass Road, just on the edge of Waipara township and perfectly positioned to capture the highway traffic. With a loyal following keeping her busy, Barb is now officially ensconced in her happy place, “I love anything to do with food and enjoy offering my cooking to my customers.”
